Average Price of Authentic Zafran in Pakistan: Real Price Ranges Per Gram
Share
The average price of authentic zafran (saffron) in Pakistan is roughly Rs. 750 to Rs. 2,000 per gram in October 2026 retail listings. Most common online listings for 1 gram sit around Rs. 750 to Rs. 900, while lab-report-backed Herat Afghan saffron from Bagh Honey costs Rs. 1,999 for 1 gram. A price far below about Rs. 500 per gram is a warning sign, because saffron takes roughly 150,000 flowers per kilogram. This guide gives the real price ranges per gram, per tola, and per kilogram, explains why prices differ so much, and shows how to judge a fair price without being fooled.

What is the average price range for zafran in Pakistan?
Prices depend on where you buy and what proof comes with the pack. We checked a sample of Pakistani online listings in October 2026 and grouped them by price per gram. Treat the figures as a guide, not a fixed rate, because saffron prices change often and listings are not always accurate.
| Price tier (per gram) | What we saw | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Under about Rs. 500 | Grocery app listings near Rs. 400 for 1 gram | Very low for saffron. Origin and purity are rarely stated, so be cautious. |
| About Rs. 750 to Rs. 900 | Most general online 1-gram listings, often "Irani" or unspecified origin | The most common retail range. Ask for proof before paying. |
| About Rs. 1,700 to Rs. 2,000 | Bagh Honey Herat Afghan saffron: Rs. 1,999 (1g), Rs. 1,800 per gram (2g), Rs. 1,733 per gram (3g) | Priced with a PCSIR Peshawar identity report (PLC/MBC/362/2026). A report is not a grade. |
Some websites quote much higher or much lower rates, from under Rs. 500 to about Rs. 2,800 per gram. One site that lists the top figure even warns that its rates may not be accurate. This is why you should compare real, current listings and not a single "rate" page.
How much does zafran cost per tola and per kilogram?
A tola is about 11.66 grams, but some sellers sell a "tola" pack of 10 grams, so always convert to price per gram before you compare. At Rs. 750 to Rs. 900 per gram, a full 11.66-gram tola works out to roughly Rs. 8,700 to Rs. 10,500. For bulk buying, two online listings we checked showed about Rs. 640,000 to Rs. 660,000 per kilogram (around Rs. 640 to Rs. 660 per gram), and another site quoted Rs. 300,000 to Rs. 500,000 per kilogram, which we could not confirm.
| Unit | Approximate price in Pakistan (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| 1 gram | Rs. 750 to Rs. 2,000 (common retail), under Rs. 500 on some apps |
| 1 tola (11.66 g) | About Rs. 8,700 to Rs. 10,500 at common retail prices |
| 1 kilogram (bulk) | About Rs. 640,000 to Rs. 660,000 in listings we checked; unverified quotes vary widely |
Bulk prices are usually lower per gram, but bulk saffron is also where adulteration and old stock are hardest to spot. Buy a small pack first and test it.
Why do zafran prices vary so much?
Five things push the price up or down:
- Origin. Iranian, Afghan, Kashmiri and Spanish saffron are priced differently, and many listings never name the origin.
- Grade and thread quality. Under ISO 3632, saffron is graded by crocin (colour), picrocrocin (taste), and safranal (aroma). Whole deep red threads cost more than cut, broken, or yellow-tipped threads.
- Whole threads or powder. Powder is cheaper and easier to mix with fillers.
- Freshness and storage. Old, badly stored saffron loses colour and aroma. See our guide on how to store saffron.
- Proof and seller. A seller who shows a verifiable lab report and offers Cash on Delivery has costs that a bare listing does not.
Is cheap zafran fake?
Not always, but a very low price is a reason to check before you trust it. Some low-priced saffron is genuine but low grade or old. Some is mixed with dyed fibres, safflower, or other fillers. You cannot tell from the price alone, and a high price does not prove purity either. Test the pack when it arrives: real threads colour warm water slowly and stay intact, while fake saffron bleeds bright red at once. Our guide to 7 tests to spot fake saffron shows how.

How do you judge a fair price?
Use this short checklist before you pay for any zafran:
- Convert to price per gram. Pack sizes and "tola" weights differ, so compare grams.
- Look for the origin and thread type. A seller who names both has less to hide.
- Ask for a lab report with a number. A report number can be checked with the laboratory.
- Choose Cash on Delivery. You inspect the pack before you pay.
- Be wary of prices far below the usual range. Saffron is too labour-intensive to be sold very cheaply.
- Buy a small pack first. Test colour, smell, and soak before you buy more.

Why is Bagh Honey saffron Rs. 1,999 per gram?
Bagh Honey saffron costs more per gram than most general listings. It is sold as whole Herat (Afghanistan) threads, as declared by Bagh Honey, with Cash on Delivery nationwide and a lab report you can open and verify. The PCSIR Laboratories Complex, Peshawar, confirmed it as genuine Crocus sativus by organoleptic and microscopic examination (report no. PLC/MBC/362/2026).
To be clear about what that means: the report is an identity and purity test, not an ISO 3632 grading, so it does not list crocin, picrocrocin, or safranal values or certify the origin. A higher price does not prove higher quality by itself, so judge the proof, not the number. You can open the PCSIR lab report (PDF) and verify it by quoting the report number to PCSIR Peshawar at plcpcsir@gmail.com or +92 91 9221432. Bigger packs lower the per-gram price: 2 grams cost Rs. 3,599 and 3 grams cost Rs. 5,199.

How much is 1 tola of zafran in Pakistan?
A tola is about 11.66 grams. At common retail prices of Rs. 750 to Rs. 900 per gram, 1 tola costs roughly Rs. 8,700 to Rs. 10,500. Some sellers sell a "tola" as 10 grams, so always compare price per gram.
How much does 1 kg of zafran cost in Pakistan?
Two online listings we checked showed about Rs. 640,000 to Rs. 660,000 per kilogram, and other sites quote very different figures. Bulk saffron is hard to verify, so test a small sample and ask for a lab report before buying in bulk.
Is very cheap zafran real?
It may be genuine but low grade or old, or it may contain fillers. Price alone cannot tell you. Check for whole red threads, slow colour release in warm water, a verifiable lab report, and Cash on Delivery.
Does a higher price mean better zafran?
Not by itself. A higher price can reflect origin, thread quality, packaging, and proof, but you should still check the lab report and test the threads. Remember that an identity report confirms the saffron is real, not how strong it is.
